Directing Workshop with Bill Brewer

Was held: Saturday, March 31, 1:00-4:00pm at the Dayton Playhouse. $35

A 3-hour workshop of stage directing fundamentals and practice.

This class is geared toward beginning and intermediate directors. Anyone who directs, or would like to direct, will benefit from Bill Brewer’s years of experience and training. Along with classroom instruction, participants will witness a scene develop using actors of different experience levels. Topics to be addressed include:

• Preparation
• Floor Plans
• Blocking
• Tempo
• Working with Actors

Bill Brewer has performed in or directed over 150 community, college, summer stock, dinner theatre and professional productions including work with the late Cesar Romero, Robert Morse and Dee Hoty. He has worked for 20 seasons with Miami University Summer Theatre directing and acting. He is the original founder of the Oxford Area Community Theatre. As an actor or director he has worked for theatres such as Capital University, Southern Illinois University, Dinner Theatres Inc., Cincinnati Footlighters, Cincinnati Choral Society, Players Theatre of Columbus, and Marjorie Lawrence Opera Theatre. He received a recent CityBeat nomination for his performance as John/James in Cincinnati Public Theatre’s “Love, Valor, Compassion.” Bill served on the Ohio Community Theatre Association’s Board of Directors and as a judge for the state festival as well as many regional OCTA festivals. He received a BA in Theatre from Otterbein College and an MA in Directing and Criticism from Miami University. Bill lives in Oxford, Ohio, where he owns his own consulting firm and teaches in the Communication and Business Schools at Miami University.
